Pastor James "LJay" Brown
Senior Site Pastor
James "LJay" Brown hails from the vibrant city of Chesapeake, VA, where his journey of service and leadership began. A proud graduate of Indian River High School, James furthered his education, earning his Master's of Divinity from the esteemed Virginia Union University Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology in 2011. Guided by the spirit of benevolence instilled by his remarkable parents, Bishop Kim and Elder Valerie Brown, James emerged as a beacon of compassion and empowerment within The Mount Global Fellowship of Churches, where his parents serve as the esteemed Presiding Prelate and Executive Pastor Emeritus.
For over a decade, James led the charge as Director of Logistics, pioneering youth outreach initiatives, fortifying the church's security measures, and stewarding its property with unwavering dedication. In 2016, James ignited a personal crusade with the launch of "The Kickback," a thought-provoking TV talk show aired on the local Fox network. He captivated audiences with his unique perspective by addressing pressing topics with refreshing candor. This visionary spirit culminated in the birth of his latest endeavor, the groundbreaking podcast "All BS (Bible Study)," where James fearlessly guides a lost generation with his innovative approach to faith.
Undeterred by challenges, James and his beloved wife, Keshia, embraced their calling as site facilitators of Mount Portsmouth in June 2019. Despite facing adversity during the COVID-19 pandemic, they transitioned seamlessly to virtual leadership, witnessing exponential growth as they nurtured the ministry from 78 to over 350 devoted partners. Beyond the pulpit, James extends his influence as a dedicated Chesapeake Parks and Recreation Board member, advocating for enhanced recreational opportunities citywide. His commitment to community engagement is further demonstrated through his appointment to the Faith Partners Network board of Norfolk State University, where he champions faith-based outreach initiatives.
In 2011, James sealed a lifelong covenant with his cherished life partner, Keshia Nicole. Together, they are blessed with two sons, James Emmanuel and Jaxon Emory, and a precious daughter, Kennedy Nicole. With unwavering faith and boundless passion, James "Ljay" Brown continues to inspire and uplift, leaving an indelible mark on all whose lives he touches.
